Open doors on bumpy roads.
We are excited to share a new door for ministry that has opened for us!
One of the pastors, Pastor Camilo, who attends our Global Action group in Purulhá, asked if we would be willing to come teach a group of young leaders in the village where he pastors, Nuevo Amanecer ("a new morning"). It's a two-and-a-half-hour trip from our home, with two of those hours on very bumpy gravel roads where only 4x4 trucks and motorbikes can go. Walter's brother graciously lent us his 4x4 jeep for the trip, since our own vehicles wouldn't have made it. From where the road ends, it's about a half-kilometer hike up to the church. There's no electricity out there!
Tying everything on the roof because we won't fit otherwise! the view on the road People heading to town. The walk up to the church. We were thankful for the help carrying supplies up! The neighborhood. The church.
About 25 to 30 people gathered, most of them quite young, still in high school, but already involved in leadership in their churches. They came from surrounding villages to attend, and they were quite timid, which is understandable when you think about how isolated they are.
It's hard to imagine life in the back country of Guatemala, where the closest "town" is Purulhá. How often would you travel two hours in the back of a pickup truck just to go shopping, especially with little kids? Life is different there. And yet the hunger to grow in the Lord is real. How amazing is that!
Walter and Sam took turns teaching. We also brought ingredients so some of the local women could prepare a meal to share with everyone. (Did you know that by supporting us, you're helping pay for these meals and all the other expenses of running these classes? We never charge anyone to attend.)
We can't speak all the languages of Guatemala's indigenous peoples, there are 24 different languages here, but we can teach those who will go back and teach in their own languages, so that people can grow in their knowledge of God!

Heading back! The path. We had to stop half way because the road is so bump stuff comes untied!
What an adventure!
