We went to Chisec again to help lead this wonderful group of pastors.

We had our final class with Global Action in Purulhá, and we held the graduation service.

It also happened to be Walter's birthday, and even though we don't see people as often as we used to, so many different people stopped by to wish him a happy birthday.

We were even invited to be part of, and participate in, other birthday parties. Birthdays in Guatemalan Christian circles often include preaching, ha! We held babies, we celebrated, and we felt the warmth of a community that hasn't forgotten us.

  • 15th birthday is a big event!

I don't usually share a lot of personal family news here, but our precious daughter got married in our backyard this month. It was a small wedding by Guatemalan standards, but you can still imagine all the planning and preparation that went into it, especially since we made the meal ourselves. All I can say is how beautiful it is to be part of such a big family of God.

So many people came and helped. An electrician strung up lights in our yard. The flowers were donated. The cake was given to us. The meat for the tacos, the drinks, all of it, was provided. Friends came and helped set up and make the day extra special. People didn't just say, "Let us know how we can help." The body of Christ simply stepped up and got to work, and we can't express how grateful we are.

In some ways, we've lost community by leaving a ministry we were part of for so long. But in other ways, God has provided us with a real community, one that isn't there because we work together, but because it chooses to draw close and show love in tangible ways. We have never felt so loved. Family and friends who are family, gathered around us and showed us that God's promise is tangible: He sets us in families (Psalm 68:6).
